Staged Auto Collisions: Insurance Commissioner Poizner Warns Sacramento Drivers to be Alert
With summer vacation looming and many Californians traditionally driving more frequently or longer distances, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner warned area drivers to be alert for staged auto collisions. In 2007-2008, 14,623 referrals out of 23,734 insurance fraud referrals received by the California Department of Insurance - 61 percent - were for suspected automobile insurance fraud.

Internet Spammer Walks Away From Florence Prison Camp
Edward “Eddie” Davidson, age 35, also known as the “spam king,” walked away from a federal prison camp in Florence on Sunday, July 20, 2008. Davidson, who was sentenced to serve 21 months in federal prison, is now officially in “escape” status. He was last seen in Lakewood . U.S. Marshals are leading the search for Davidson. The FBI, IRS, and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force are aiding in the search.

The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced today that the new U.S. Passport Card is in full production and is now being distributed. The Passport Card is a convenient, wallet-sized document for land and sea travel between the United States and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, and Bermuda. It is not valid for international travel by air.

E-Postcard Filing on IRS.gov for Small Tax Exempt Organizations
Beginning in 2008, small tax-exempt organizations that were previously not required to file a return may be required to file an annual electronic notice. The notice is Form 990-N, Electronic Notice (e-Postcard) for Tax Exempt Organizations Not Required to File Form 990 or 990-EZ, and the new filing requirement applies to tax years ending on or after December 31, 2007.
