Sacramento — Due to increased demand, the Department of
Motor Vehicles announced today that field office appointments can now be made 45
days in advance, either on the department web site (www.dmv.ca.gov) or by telephone (800.777.0133).
“In order to keep up with customer demand, we’ve extended the online
appointment calendar to 45 days,” said DMV Director George Valverde. “We believe
this will help accommodate additional drive test appointments each month.”
Customers can make advance appointments for DMV services, including the
behind-the-wheel drive test.
The department, which conducts nearly 1 million drive tests annually in
California, reminds customers that the following are required for making a
drive-test appointment for a driver license exam:
-
Provide either your Driver Permit number of Driver License number;
-
True full name;
-
Date of Birth.
For a more seamless appointment, the department encourages drive test
applicants to make sure to bring the following on drive test day:
-
Driver Permit
-
Proof of insurance for the vehicle to be used on the drive test.
-
Proof of valid registration for the vehicle to be used on the drive test.
Applicants under age 18 must have held their driver permit a minimum of six
months; must provide the driver education and driver training completion forms;
and have completed 50 certified hours of practice with an adult age 25 or
older.
Applicants who pass the test will be issued an interim license valid for 60
days until a permanent license is mailed. Applicants that fail the test must
wait two weeks before taking the exam again.
