TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT MENOPAUSE

Hot flashes. Irritability. Mood swings. Sounds like menopause. So now what?

Learn about the medical options that are available to help you deal with these symptoms with the free Talking With Your Doctor About Menopause package of publications from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Citizen Information Center.

Hormone therapy, the most common way to deal with the symptoms of menopause, may not be right for everyone. Women who have had blood clots or breast or uterine cancer are not candidates for the treatment. Talking to Your Doctor About Menopause discusses what other health conditions are not compatible with hormone therapy.

Each hormone medicine has its own side effects, but some common ones include stomach cramps, weight gain and nausea. The Talking to Your Doctor About Menopause package includes a list of the common hormone medicines and their side effects. You’ll also learn important questions to discuss with your doctor, such as the length of the course of treatment, as you decide whether to use hormones to handle the symptoms you’re experiencing. The package even includes a purse guide that you can take to the doctor to make sure you don’t forget anything you wanted to ask.

There are three easy ways to order the free Talking to Your Doctor About Menopause package of publications:

  • Send your name and address to Talking to Your Doctor About Menopause, Pueblo, Colorado 81009.
