NEW YORK, December 6, 2011 — Understanding how auto and homeowners insurance deductibles work is crucial to getting the most out of your insurance dollars, according to the Insurance Information Institute(I.I.I.).
"Deductibles impact the price of an insurance policy. In fact raising your deductible is one of the easiest ways to save money on insurance," said Jeanne M. Salvatore, senior vice president and consumer spokesperson for the I.I.I. “However, the amount of the deductible will also impact the amount of money you will collect when you have an insurance claim, so consumers need to understand how deductibles work and the various options they have when purchasing a home or auto insurance policy.”
The I.I.I. has a new article available, Understanding Your Deductible, which includes information on hurricane and windstorm deductibles.
For more information on the topic or to arrange an interview, contact Jeanne M. Salvatore at 212-346-5555 or by email at jeannes@iii.org.
